» Nabarro: Prepare to "hunker down"

Happy Doomsday to You! By Dana Milbank Friday, March 24, 2006; Page A02 Washington was about one horseman short of an apocalypse yesterday. It began with a breakfast meeting in a Senate office building where, over fruit salad and bagels, government and academic experts discussed the coming avian flu pandemic. "Currently it has a fatality rate of 56 percent," reported Nancy Cox, flu expert with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "An increasing number of countries have reported human cases. The severe cases are really quite severe." Pointing to slides of some nasty chest X-rays, she added: "Death from this particular pathogen is not a pleasant death." Next: the mid-morning news conference on mad cow disease at the Nat...... - 2010-03-11

» Does'nt this happen 2 u?

your in the red light & next thing u knw some cop has the lights on & he crosses the red light & then he turns off the lights of the car?Not sure how this question goes under the heading of car audio but. Yes I see this happen all the time, and it is a miss use of their authority, but theres noting you can do about it. It sucks but that's the way it goes.Yes i have also seen this. Just because he turned off his light's doesn't mean he isn't in a hurry for a good reason but maybe it is only a mild emergency so rather then totally disrupting traffic he just uses the lights to safely cross the intersection in a hurry. C'mon your just jealous you can't do that!they only use the lights to alert other drivers of ...... - 2010-03-11

» An Obama for France? It won't happen soon

Je me demande si Thierry Henry fonctionnait jamais pour le président? The rise of Barack Obama to the forefront of the race for the U.S. Democratic presidential nomination is holding a mirror to France as its citizens prepare to vote next month in 36,781 municipal elections. Moussa Deme laughs out loud at the idea that the French would elect someone like Obama, 46, to any political office. "In France? Never," Deme, a 22-year-old Senegalese-born student, said on the way home from his job at a restaurant in Paris. "In France, it is impossible for a black man even to be mayor. They think it is enough that we are on their football team."http://superfrenchie.com/?p=1472 The United States of America has been in existence for 231 years. In...... - 2010-03-11

I was wondering if you can import an Outlook Calendar or even an Excel document into the vBulletin calender. ThanksThere is no importer to do this. I just realized this weekend that I have two copies of the Phaidon 55 book on Joseph Sudek. So I am going to give it away to some lucky winner. I will pick a winner at the end of April. This is a cheap ploy to get people to visit your site isn't it? » Remote Shutter For Rebels - Would this actually work?

Was just searching around on the net looking for prices on remote shutters for the Canon EOS and came across this page on how to make one using a hands-free headset for a mobile phone - Looks very interesting (and cheap lol) if it actually works. Has anyone here actually tried making one of these? $5 Remote Shutter Trigger for Canon Digital Rebels (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/02/3_remote_shutter_trigger_for_canon_digital_rebels-2.html)I made one for the D200 but I didn't have the luxury of a 2.5mm socket. The D200 has a proprietary 10pin socket.I'm thinking of trying it out as it seems an intersting way of making one. I notice it was saying a few other Canons have different sockets also - This seemed to be more for the Rebel Models...... - 2010-03-11

» How much better are we?

While we have no league matches for a while I thought it might be time to consider how much better we are this season compared to the last couple. Or not, depending on your viewpoint. Maybe I am reacting too strongly to our performance against Newcastle but I am very excited about our prospects this season. Yes, even though we threw it away in the last 10 my rosy outlook remains! For one thing it is obvious we have changed our style of play for the better. I was not one of those supporters who was moaning about us not winning 5-0 every match anyway, but I do see some very positive signs of GH "unleashing hell" as they say. A number of matches (mostly at home) we have seen 4-3-3 and seeing the likes of Diouf, Owen and Heskey all on ...... - 2010-03-11

» Molecular size: which one is bigger?

synthetic membrane pore or a starch molecule Molecules of starch are variable in size, and can be composed of hundreds of sugar units. Glucose, a common component of starch, is somewhere around 300pm around (it's a ring). One hundred of these side by side would be 30,000pm, or 30nm. There are synthetic membranes with pores much smaller than that - they're called "nanoporous" membranes. You could argue that the starch molecules will fold up on themselves in aqueous solution, though.synthetic membrane pore is quite a bit bigger...... - 2010-03-11

I had an interview yesterday and I was asked "what does customer ownership mean to you" Now this was for an IT Support role and didnt have a clue what it ment. I basically answered it as taking ownership for each customer and being there from start to finish with their problem and make sure its resolved. Now is it just one of those opinion questions or did i look a complete fool? lol You got it right. They want to be sure you will make your customer's issue your issue. It means the customer is boss. Hi everyone, I am new here and sort of new to photography, I have been shooting for over a year, but it has been spotty and am now just getting into it and learning what different film speeds do and aperture and shutter speed. I currently have a film Canon Rebel K2 with the kit lens 28-90mm, it has gotten me good shots, but after reading some posts on here I found out about the 50mm fixed lens that I plan on getting and now am wondering about a zoom lens. On BH photo video's website I found a Canon 75-300 mm for $180 and a Tamron 70-300 mm for $190. I shoot more landscape than portrait, some sports thrown in there as well. » How do you stop cats pissing on the carpet?

serious answers onlyYou need to get rid of any of the residual odors from the areas that they pee on. This includes the under pad and floor. As long as they can smell any lingering odor, they will continue to use those spots. Try an enzymatic odor cleaner like Nature's Miracle to clean the area. After cleaning, if they act like they still want to pee in those spots, you have two more options. One is to take a squirt bottle full of water and spray them every time they try to pee or the second option, put their litter box on top of the spot for a couple of days, then begin to move it a little at a time until you've moved it to where you want it to be. Hopefully they will follow the box. Good luck.get a dog, sell the catFirst...... - 2010-03-11

Anyone know how much it would cost to replace a catalytic converter on an 03 nissan xterra? From what I've gathered, your car has a front and rear (right and left) catalytic converter. If you go to: autopartswarehouse.com each cost $228.00. If there is a way your Nissan dealer could inform you which one or both is bad you'll see that these parts from autopartswarehouse are far less expensive than OEM Nissan or muffler shop parts. Any private mechanic or new car dealer would be happy to replace these *direct fit catalytic converters. Do not consider the less expensive *weld in fits all converters as car dealers and muffler shops will not these install carry in parts. Possibly a private mechanic would. » What are the best products to haul for tractor trailers?

We just inherited a small trucking comapany with three trucks. They were used in the oild field and the trailers were sold recently. We are looking at replacing the trailers but don't know what is best to haul. What pays the best and what is in demand? Not too long ago, I would have said cars. But with the decline in the economy, new car freight has dropped off considerably and the market is saturated with people looking for used/specialty cars to haul. You can check around, but I am not sure what cars are paying these days. Investing in 3 car trailers right off the bat would be costly & could be more than you bargained for if you don't know the industry. It's not the best-paying freight, but getting 3 refrigerated t...... - 2010-03-11

"Do you shoot in San Fransisco?" Nope. "Do you know anyone GOOD who does?" This was asked of me the other day from a client who may get married upstate (and wants me) or may get married in SF. I had no answer. I feel one of the biggest boons to being online is the ability to say to a client "Oh, your sister is getting married in Orlando? Ok, well, I don't travel that far, but I know this great photographer in Tampa who would love to make the drive over." Point being, there are TONS of fantastic wedding photographers here. I have NEVER seen a question where a believer INTENTIONALLY tried to mock the Atheists. But EVERY time I get on the R&S section, there are at least 10 people who post a question, just to mock the believers. Do you find this annoying? Are you angry that they mock God or believers (ie you)? Keep two things in mind. One is that not everyone coming on here claiming to be an 'atheist' is necessarily representative of atheism as a whole. Many are simply using this forum to troll and insult believers. Second is that there are plenty of posts mocking atheists - but many of these are also by trolls. Remember - when you respond to a troll, you are feeding their need for attention. You've NEVER seen a question where a christian...... - 2010-03-11

I'm currently trying to make my way through a not-so-easy text about Japanese clothes in ancient times, and came across a strange use of the te form I don't really get. The phrase is: Š™‚©‚玞‘ゲ‚ë‚©‚çA‰º’…‚̬‘³‚ð•’i’…‚Æ‚µ‚Ä’…‚½B "Roughly from the kamakura period on, silk clothes worn as underwear..." This is where I'm stumped. What does "to shite kiru" in connection with the "wo" after "kosode" mean? "Were worn as?", perhaps? I honestly haven't come across constructions like that yet. The "to" puzzles me, too. I can't find any enumerations or citations in this sentence. Can someone help? I'd me much appreciated. :souka: Oh, yeah, the last sentence is "Žá‚¢l‚Í‚¢‚‚à—m•ž‚ð’…‚Ä‚¢‚ÄC‚¨³ŒŽ‚⌋¥Ž®‚È‚Ç‚Ì “Á•ʂȋ@‰ï‚É‚µ‚©’…•¨...... - 2010-03-11

They beat Avennir Beggen (of Luxembourg) 8-1 at Portman Road, having won the first leg 1-0, to go through to the tournament proper 9-1 on aggregate. They qualified through the Fair Play league, which essentially throws the name of the "cleanest team" from each European country into a hat, with three drawn out to enter the following season's UEFA Cup as a reward. Well, the last time we ate there, she said she didn't want it, gestured with her hands and vocalized that she was cutting back. I clearly understood that she didn't want to spend one more cent. But I ordered the dessert anyway to be shared and split, cost-wise, with her other friend. After the dessert arrived, she kept harping on and on, "you're not understanding my situation."
